Food Scraps

Food waste makes up almost a third of our waste stream. Why not turn this waste into black gold by making compost? Composting is the controlled, biological decomposition of organic material. It is a great way to reduce waste and generate a rich soil amendment for your garden.

The LRSWMD sells compost bins, 5-gallon buckets with gamma seal lids, and counter top compost collectors at all Transer Station locations and Green Cones at the Morrisville Office. The LRSWMD can also provide free compost resources to residents wishing to build their own bins or to those who have questions about composting. Call our office for more information. Beginning July 1, 2020 the State of Vermont bans the "knowing disposal" of this material.
