Film plastics, i.e. shopping bags, must be collected and recycled separately from other commingled recycling. They cannot be put in the blue bin with other commonly recyclable materials.
The following film plastics can be collected together, clean and dry, and returned to the supermarket or brought to any LRSWMD Transfer Station for recycling.
- shopping bags
- bread bags
- dry cleaning
- newspaper sleeves
- ice bags
- overwrap for cases (toilet paper, paper towels, etc.)
- ziploc bags
- bubble wrap
- salt bags - TURN INSIDE OUT
- produce bags
- cereal bags
- garbage bags
- wood pellet bags - TURN INSIDE OUT
Non-recyclable plastics - Unfortunately, just because an item has a recycling symbol on it doesn't mean it's recyclable. Styrofoam is not currently recyclable in our area and must be reused or disposed of as trash.
As of July 1, 2015, plastic is banned from the landfill.
