Recycling
The Vermont State E-Cycles Program allows for FREE drop-off of: Computers, Monitors, Televisions, Printers, and Computer Peripherals from Vermont households/residents, 501c3 charities, school districts and businesses of 10 employees or less.The following information outlines the specifications for recyclables. Simply click on a heading below to learn more.
The District offers single stream recycling! Paper products and containers are accepted mixed together. Purchase a recycling bin for $5 at the main office or at any of our Transfer Stations.
Paper
Acceptable Paper
• Newspapers• Corrugated Boxes
• Cereal Boxes
• Magazines
• Junk Mail
• White and Colored Paper

Special Instructions:
- Remove all plastic parts- Do not tie newspaper with string
- Flatten corrugated cardboard
- Remove product samples from magazines and catalogs
- Open junk mail and recycle loose
Unacceptable Paper
• Refrigerated or frozen food boxes• Carbonless [NCR] forms with your office paper
• Animal food bags
• Wax coated Corrugated
• Detergent boxes
• Milk and Juice Containers (Wax coated)
Plastic
Acceptable Plastics
• Any plastics between 2" on all sides and 2' on any one side.• Containers & packaging with the recycling numbers #1 through #7.

Special Instructions:
- Rinse Clean- Discard caps & lids under 2 inches
- Labels & neck rings are OK
- DO NOT tie with string

- Peanut butter jars
- Sour cream, cottage cheese & yogurt tubs
- Non-foam plastic egg cartons
- Frozen food trays
- Hinged food containers (such as fast food & deli containers)
- Pastry & cookie trays
- Tupperware & other similar containers
- Vegetable & fruit containers
- Dairy Tubs and Lids 2” or larger
- Flower Pots & Seedling Trays
- 5 Gallon Buckets (handles removed)
- Plastic Molded Packaging
- 6 and 12 pack Beverage Containers (wet-strength)
Non-Acceptable Plastics
- Caps & lids under 2” wide
- Styrofoam (packaging blocks, packing peanuts & egg cartons)
- Toys, laundry baskets, sleds, housewares
- Plastic film (grocery bags, bread bags & Tyvek envelopes)
- Containers used to hold motor oil
- Manufacturing scrap
- Electronics housing

Computers
Our Johnson, Morrisville and Stowe locations are registered E-waste Collection sites where you can recycle your computers, printers, peripherals and televisions for free. The recycling fee is waived if you are a Vermont resident, charity or business with 10 or fewer employees. The remaining stations will charge a small fee.

Books
Hard and soft cover books are collected at the Johnson and Stowe Transfer Stations.
Books cannot be moldy or yellowed with age.
